St. Martin lived to be over 80 years of age. When he died, his face "shown as if", it had been glorified,
and the voice of angels was heard signing by many that were there."
After his death St. Martin continued to perform miracles of healing and succor.
According to Gregory of Tours, a man guilty of many robberies and other crimes was arrested and conducted to the gallows.
He asked his executioners only enough time to pray. With hands tied behind him he threw himself on the ground and
"began to invoke the name of the blessed Martin, in order to obtain from him pardon from his sins,
if not help in his extreme necessity." As soon as he finished his prayer he was hanged by the soldiers and left for dead.
But when the soldiers were far away, the ropes on his hands and feet fell away."
He remained there suspended for two days and was then discovered by a nun to be still alive."
It was the Blessed Martin who rescued him from immenint death." said the theif to all who came to see the wonder.
