St. Martin was known for drawing morals from the events of every day life.
As he witnessed the sheering of a sheep, he began to instruct his disciples with these words:
"This sheep had accomplished the commandment of the gospel, for he had two coats, and he had given to him that had none,
and thus... Ye ought to do."
