Martin was consecrated Bishop of Tours. He continued to heal the sick.
At Paris as he entered the gate of the city, he kissed a most loathesome leper and gave him his blessing.
The leper was immediately healed. Small threads of the clothes or hair shirt of St. Martin often cured the sick when applied to them.
The large brimmed "lepers hat" identified the man as infected. The clapper was to warn people to keep their distance.
The artist who created this artwork for St. Martin's signed it BAMorano.
